Done wrong — new shingles face-nailed over old ones, or tar smeared across the gap — it leaks again within a couple of seasons. Wind matters here too: blown off shingles usually mean the sealant strip had already let go, so we check the surrounding courses, not just the obvious hole.

Cracked or loose shingles on a roof with life left are worth fixing, and an exact colour match matters less than a watertight repair — though we get as close as current stock allows.
